DANCE SALAD FESTIVAL Community Outreach Programs

Dance Salad Festival offers a selection of programs and activities in locations throughout the greater Houston area and outlying regions of Harris County.

 

A Touring Taste of Dance Salad Festival
November 18, 2009 6:30 PM
Special Film Screening and Discussion in the Brown Auditorium of Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

The screening presents excerpts from the spring 2009 Dance Salad performances. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to relive highlights of choreographic masterpieces by leading European dancers including The English National Ballet, London; The Royal Danish Ballet, Copenhagen; Mats Ek and Ana Laguna, Stockholm; Gothenburg Opera Ballet, Sweden; SemperOper Ballet, Dresden; Marie-Agnes Gillot, partnered by Kader Belarbi, Ballet de L’Opera National de Paris; Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui/Toneelhuis Theatre, Antwerp; Carte Blanche, Norway and others.

 

Choreographers’ Forum
Co-sponsored by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the seventh annual Choreographer’s Forum will be held on Wednesday March 31st, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. in the MFAH’s Brown Auditorium, Caroline Wiess Law Building. This free event highlights the creative process of making dance and is a wonderful opportunity to understand some of the work being presented at Dance Salad Festival from the choreographers’ perspective. A museum reception follows. FREE to the general public.

Master Class Series
The Master Class Series provides an opportunity for the local Houston dance community to interface with some of the world’s premier dancers, choreographers and company directors participating in Dance Salad Festival. Classes at all levels, specifically tailored for the local companies requesting a master class, are offered throughout the week of March 31-April 3, 2010. The Open Classes are offered to intermediate-advanced to advanced students at a nominal charge.

 

 

Afternoon Student Concert Program
Designed for middle and high school age students, the Afternoon Student Concert Program combin es a short “behind the scenes” tour, educational talks and a final dress rehearsal performance in the Cullen Theater, Wortham Center. This free program will be offered on Thursday, April 1, 2010 from 12:00 – 2:30 PM.

 

 

A Touring Taste of Dance Salad Festival – ongoing, year long program

This free film program features highlights of the live Festival performances at the Cullen Theater, Wortham Center. This film on DVD is available for schools, libraries, community centers and groups in the Greater Houston Area. A Touring Taste of Dance Salad Festival is a free program and open to the public.
