Our 25th annual Dance Salad Festival returns to Houston during April 10-16, 2022.  

The week includes three unique nights of performances – April 14, April 15, and April 16, 2022 – plus our annual choreographers forum at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, artist-to-artist workshops, and our special dress rehearsal performances for local students.

2022 MFAH Choreographers Forum Recording (links to DS Facebook for video)

The 20th annual Dance Salad Festival Choreographers’ Forum was held on Wednesday, April 13 at 7pm at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston’s Brown Auditorium Theater. This year's free program featured choreographers Sebastian Kloborg of the Royal Danish Ballet's Kammerballetten (Denmark), Harold George of Dunia Dance Theatre with filmmaker Antoine Panier who directed and produced the “Making Men” film (Belgium/Zimbabwe), and Drew Jacoby of the Royal Ballet of Flanders (Belgium). Moderated by dance writer Maggie Foyer of London, speakers discussed insights into their creative process and shared video excerpts of their work on the theater screen.

To date, we have confirmed the following choreographic works and companies for the 2022 Festival:

 

Hofesh Shechter Company (London, UK)

  • Grand Finale (curated version for DSF) choreographed by Hofesh Shechter, with live music, composed by the choreographer.


Semperoper Ballett Dresden (Germany)

:
  • Pas de deux from The Four Seasons choreographed by David Dawson, set to music by Max Richter.


Royal Danish Ballet's Kammerballetten performances (Copenhagen, Denmark)

:
  • Oenothera Choreographed by Tobias Praetorius set to music by Franz Schubert, with live Piano by Alexander McKenzie, Violin by Niklas Walentin, and Cello by Jonathan Swensen.
  • In Bright Gloom Choreographed by Sebastian Kloborg, set to music by Serge Rachmaninov, with live Cello by Jonathan Swensen and Piano by Alexander McKenzie.
  • Selvportraet Choreographed by Paul Lightfoot set to music by Alexander McKenzie, with live Piano by the composer and also Violin by Niklas Walentin, and Cello by Jonathan Swensen.


Royal Ballet of Flanders (Belgium)

  • Jack (solo) choreographed by Drew Jacoby, set to music by George Gershwin.


Dunia Dance Theater (Belgium/Zimbabwe)

:
  • Making Men, dance and film, choreographed by Harold George and filmed by Antoine Panier, set to a combination of original African and classical Western music scores.
